BIO

Sebastian grew up in a christian home and has had a passion for music since a young age. At 4 years old, he began beating on pots and pans and his parents knew then that it was in him to become a musician. He got his first drum set at age 10 and after much practice, he began playing for a church 3 years late. By age 15 he was given the privilege to record for a friends album which led him to play for various churches and conferences soon after. His dream was to one day become a studio drummer and possibly tour. After graduating high school, he continued ministering in music and was given the opportunity to record for Pentecostal Records in Houston Tx. 6 Months later he went on tour throughout Mexico with a Christian tejano band from Houston. When he returned back home to San Antonio, he started his own multimedia company called Living Disciples Media. Through his company, he assisted various local artists with audio recording, music production, graphics & web designing/development, print media and video production. He also engineered, tracked live drums, and assisted in producing music for various recording studios around San Antonio. Over the years many opportunities have opened up for Sebastian as God has always been the center point to his music career and he continues to pursue music with hopes to go back on tour.

So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.                 –  James 2:17

Over the years I have had the opportunity to try various types of drums and cymbals and this is what I currently use.

PdP Drums

The first time I played on a pdp kit, I was playing for El Sendero Church in San Antonio. What sold me the most was very minimal tuning and the sound was exactly what I was looking for in regards to the music style I was playing. I have tried various other brands but was unhappy with having to tune it more often then most. With several other brands that I’ve played on, I would have to tune before the service or gig, and retune half way through. I was blessed to have bought the Birch Concept Series by PdP. When I first bought the set, I kept the original heads for almost about a year. I rarely tuned them and even when I did, it was very minimal. Honestly, I usually just throw on some moongels and begin playing and the tone has been amazing. I play about every weekend and never really untune the drums before packing them. At the same token, I never really ever spend much time tuning it before my next gig either.

Zildjian

Zildjian cymbals come along way but just recently there has been 1 type that has really been catching my attention lately. Do to the fact that the sound and quality of cymbals have changed, it has been very difficult to find this specific tone in a cymbal. More recently, I began playing more jazz and blues and I find the sound of the Vintage Avedis Cymbal is the perfect tone for those genres. For me, the more recent A custom zildijan set has a different sound compared to the older vintage Avedis.

I was given a ZBT Zildjan pack and I still use the same set for various events. However, I was disappointed when 1 cymbal cracked and the other started to bend around the edges. I felt that the cymbals were made cheap and couldn’t withstand the play time. I turned the incident into a positive and started using it like a high china crash. It sounds like a transformer cymbal but with a higher tone. The cymbals may be a good starter pack but I feel that they might be at the bottom of the totem pole of cymbals.

Ddrum Snare

I began playing with Sold Out believers Christian Fellowship in San Antonio around June 2015 and was then introduced to Dios by Ddrum. I became very interested with the setup and tone of the entire kit. A couple months later I purchased an all white reflex snare drum by ddrum. Before then, I had been playing with a Latin Blues Band and would use my pdp snare that was specifically tuned for gospel/praise & worship. After studying various blues bands, I decided to purchase my 2nd snare for that specific style. After hearing the tone of the Ddrum kit, I went ahead and purchased a REFLEX SNARE by Ddrum. I even used it in the studio recently and the engineer loved the sound for that specific genre. I haven’t tried the full reflex kit but hope to have the opportunity to try it and put my thoughts behind the tone and feel for it.

Sabian Cymbals

I was given an Ozone cymbal and even though it was cracked and on the way out for retirement, I ended up cutting it and used it for another year and a half. Most times when cutting a cymbal the sound changes but not in this case. After cutting the cymbal, the tone stayed the same and I even had people offering to buy it also for the looks.

Another cymbal I used had a crack in the middle away from the edge and the bell. Even with the crack, it still had a good sound and chose to use it  for an acoustic album. I would definitely suggest Sabian cymbals for there quality and tone.
